ELLIE CAETI

ELLIE CAETI

LONDON TO GUERNSEY: A YEAR IN THE BAILIWICK

6–11 November 2023, 10.00–17.00

  • Within the quiet embrace of the Guernsey landscape, Ellie Caeti has embarked on an artistic journey — one of subtle beauty and timeless inspiration. Her exhibition, A YEAR IN THE BAILIWICK, captures the essence of this corner of the world with a clarity and depth that invites us to explore the intricate interplay of nature, light, and colour.

Guernsey, cradled by the gentle waves of the English Channel, has a character that defies the need for grandiose words. Its light is unique, rays from the sun are mirrored by the dazzling sea, illuminating the harmonious tones of the surrounding landscape. Ellie’s work mirrors this ambience. Her signature palette, gentle and velvety, is homage to the quiet illumination that bathes Guernsey's shores. With each brushstroke, she evokes the island's tranquil serenity—a love letter to a place that captures her heart.

As we move through the exhibition, we experience the changing seasons of the Bailiwick: spring bursts forth with a crisp brightness, while autumn's golden leaves speak of quiet transitions. Ellie's canvases are not mere representations, they are portals into seasonal moments suspended in time. Blues and pinks dance with one another on the canvas, celebrating the jewel tones the island is known for. Here and there we find a speckling of yellow marks, a reminder of the vibrant and iconic Gorse flower that scatters the coastline. These melodies of colour, paired with Ellie’s soft, yet practised mark-making, culminate into a cohesive body of work.

In her portrayals of London, glimpses of Guernsey's considered light and palette remain. This duality offers us insight into Ellie's perception of the city and the yearning for the island's embrace—an unspoken dialogue captured on canvas.

With A YEAR IN THE BAILIWICK, Ellie extends an invitation to immerse ourselves in her world, where colour, light, and nature harmonise. These works are not just paintings; they are windows into Guernsey and its understated allure.

  • I’m a Londoner at heart but absolutely love the feeling of escapism which one can find when painting. I was always labelled the daydreamer at school and I suppose most of my work depicts landscapes which have a dream-like quality. The majority of my pieces focus on scenes from Guernsey, as I feel a strong attachment to the beauty of the island.
