Emma Pawle. OLD BULL. Oil on canvas. 58 x 48 cm

  • African animals have always been Emma’s primary focus. In the twenty years since she first visited the continent, she has seen the number of elephants, cheetahs and lions diminish. Even giraffe and zebra numbers have fallen as they are killed for bush meat. Although a few of her works use a very limited colour palette and place the animals on a white background, many have incorporated a flame-coloured hue, suggesting the stress and peril in which these animals find themselves. She has focused more on the evening light and the animals at dusk in a few of the paintings. Emma works mainly with oils and brushes but some have had an acrylic base and palette knives are used. Her subjects are always the same and she strives to find new ways to depict them.

Emma has visited Africa on numerous occasions over the past 25 years. She is passionate about wildlife conservation and protecting Africa’s unique natural heritage. She is a keen photographer who likes the challenge of interpreting images through oil or acrylic onto canvas or board with a brush or palette knife. Her aim is to capture the essence of the animal, whether it is grazing or on the lookout; at rest or on the move. Most of her recent works are inspired by dramatic African sunsets and the atmosphere created as day slips into night.

Emma is donating 15% of the sales to the Wildlife Charity TUSK.

  • Emma Pawle has been travelling to Africa for many years and has a passion for its wildlife. Her lifetime interest in photography lead her into the world of painting fifteen years ago and she has been studying in London and developing her art in her studio.

Emma has held successful exhibitions in Cork St, Mayfair, and at La Galeria, Pall Mall and has worked on a number of commissions. She has also sold at The Osborne Studio Gallery, Knightsbridge. She had a painting accepted into the Folder of Artwork at the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year 2017 at The Mall Galleries, London.
