British Australian Toby Gawler, British Pakistani Annam Butt and Italian Cristina Vercesi, these artists weave a tapestry of diversity, inviting viewers to explore their own roots while appreciating the richness and complexity of others. In the realm of Otherlands, art becomes a universal language, fostering empathy, understanding, and a shared appreciation for the beauty of our collective human experience.

Otherlands presents a compelling exploration of cultural identity, the concept of home, and the evocative power of figurative art, inviting viewers to engage with a diverse range of artistic expressions that illuminate the complexities and nuances of our shared human experience.

  • Cristina is a classically trained Italian artist London based. Growing up in Italy, Cristina nurtured her passion for art from an early age. However it wasn’t until 2017, during her late 30s that she took a momentous leap forward by joining London Fine Art Studios. There, she immersed herself in the classical method of drawing and painting, acquiring invaluable skills and now Cristina teaches there part-time. In 2021, she was awarded the prestigious De Laszlo Scholarship. Her creative spirit is fuelled by the Italian art movements of Verism and Scapigliatura, which capture the rawness of human emotions and challenge traditional artistic norms. Cristina, an avid art book collector, has a deep passion for unearthing information about talented artists. Her curiosity extends beyond the well-known figures, including those whose works and lives have been overshadowed by time, making her search for hidden gems a constant pursuit.

  • Toby Gawler is an Australian British artist whose artistic journey began at a young age. Toby completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at SCA in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and from 2020 he studied traditional painting methods at London Fine Art Studios where he continues to teach today. By immersing himself in the technical intricacies of oil painting, he has directed his focus towards creating artwork that delves into themes such as self-exploration, the ephemeral nature of memory, narrative, and nostalgic reflections of the past. Central to Toby’s artistic vision is his desire to establish a profound connection between his work and the viewer. By employing the aforementioned themes, he creates a space that invites viewers to infuse their own experiences and emotions into the artwork, fostering a personal and resonant engagement.
