Artist Statement

The birds I paint have an anthropomorphic feel, which lend themselves well to large imposing portraits.

I work in acrylic on canvas, creating images larger than life size. My current work deals with relationships. I like to paint characters who skew the social norms of history, there is a slight nod to portraiture, and society in my work. I often paint birds that are seen as pests, or are largely ignored, for me it's liberating to paint the underdog as the aggressor.

I also feel it's important to be able to look at my work and just see a bird, there is a narrative, but the works needs to stand up without it.
