Artist Statement

My paintings are influenced by Botanical Illustration and Contemporary Botanical Art which I believe suits the range of work you exhibit. I have been studying and researching Botanical Art and the balance between the background and subjectivity since my dissertation exploring the work of Rory McEwen and Egon Schiele. My work plays with scale and composition and rather than a still life, I see my paintings as designs and compositional forms from nature. The work shared with you is a part of my latest collection of pieces that explore abstraction but consider the space and potential of a blank and spacious background.
