Artist Statement
The majority of Tom’s work is figurative. Tom has developed a particular interest in aesthetic form and feature, his paintings are in oil and much of the work produced recently has been a development of the balance between the depiction of the subject and how the paint is best used to achieve this most effectively. Colour, scale and context are all dealt with increasing vigour and sensitivity but many themes, such as emotional intimacy, still remain inherent in the work.
Tom currently works as a portrait painter as well as producing his own paintings, often inspired by poetry, classical myths or Grecian and roman sculpture. Often the subject of the paintings are isolated and removed form a specific context or background.
