Artist Statement

I am primarily an oil painter interested in figures. I aim to capture figures in action as they move through space. My works are painterly, I am interested in how the medium takes on its own life and how I can express a sense of action and touch through brushstrokes. I often make drawings and watercolours from observation, sometimes these drawings become the starting point for a painting. I never work from photographs, the drawings are an important memory aid.
