Artist Statement

I am a material-led artist and I am interested in relationships, how you can effect one element by introducing another, from the arrangement of forms to chemical combustions. I am also fascinated by the technical side of creating. I like to have an understanding of how things work and how they are made, which I believe gives me greater influence when playing with the elements involved, to skew results into more complex aesthetic curiosity and beauty. I like to pit materials against materials and materials against the forces of nature. I want to play, coax and then ignite the fight between chemical combustion, clay and fire, and capture the struggle on the ceramic surface. Many of my pieces are lost, the ones that survive are treated with reverence, and love and are hard to part with.
