  • I was born in 1964 in Bedford. I attended Bedford High School for Girls, leaving in 1982 after gaining a place at The Slade School of Fine Art. After achieving a BA (Hons), 2:1, I gained a postgraduate place at The Slade to be started in 1987. From 1986-1987 I won The David Bailey Scholarship in landscape painting which I took in South West France.

After leaving The Slade in 1989 I won the Boise Travel Award taken in New York. I then taught at the New York Studio School in New York.

Since 1990 I have lived as a professional painter showing my work mainly in London. I regularly undertake commissions, both landscape and portraits. I have won many prestigious awards and my work is in private collections in London, Paris, Italy, Portugal, Texas, New York and Switzerland.

    EXHIBITION STATEMENT

Strength of image is my main intention. Within this I can explore the many facets of painting with its endless possibilities. I am increasingly using the natural elements mainly air and water to generate a certain energy to draw the onlooker into the painting for example “Wave.” As well as the onlooker being involved I also try to transport into the space and atmosphere of a painting and this is usually landscape. I enjoy the space I can create by using a window or archway for example Capri.

“Spiral” is also very much about space with the spiral shape created by the tree lined road with a reference made to the basis of nature emerging from the spiral. I try to capture an atmosphere and a create something solid from a fleeting glance for example “Lagoon.”

I live in the south of France so I am lucky enough to be able to work ‘en plein air,’ I work mainly in oil sometimes with water colour.

  • Lisa Micklewright is an award winning British artist

Primarily a landscape painter, her strong sense of structure and flair for abstract pattern are balanced with an ability to imbue her observed subjects with an intensely atmospheric mood and vision.

Lisa has always had a fascination with looking at the world from above and uses maps, satellite imagery, travel and a “sense of place” as an integral part of her work process and has made a series of “aerial landscapes”.

“I think there are certain configurations, patterns and forms in nature which can lead to a harmonious, energised beauty.”

Inspired by these perspectives, her interest in and feeling for the dynamics of mark-making, line, tone and colour allow her to vividly interpret the patterns and shapes found in both the human and natural world.
