We are thrilled to present the solo exhibition of Jane Phillips. Her mastery of abstract landscapes is unparalleled, and her wealth of experience is evident in every stroke. The exhibition showcases the breadth of her talent, featuring a range of works that demonstrate her ability to capture the essence of nature in all its complexity.
Her canvases are alive with colour and texture, inviting viewers to explore every detail of the scene. Through her impressionistic lens, we experience the changing light, the fleeting moments, and the sheer beauty of nature. Each piece is a reflection of her lifetime of work, a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft.
As we walk through the exhibition, we are transported to different places and times, each painting telling a unique story. From the sun-drenched fields of Provence to the ethereal mist of India, her canvases transport us to breathtaking scenes with remarkable precision. While the landscapes may be abstract, the emotions they evoke are very real. We feel the peace and tranquillity of a quiet woodland, the energy and chaos of the sea, and the warmth and joy of a sunny scene.
In addition to her exquisite paintings, this exhibition also features a unique inclusion of small bronze sculptures. These intricately crafted pieces complement her paintings, providing a tactile dimension to her artistic expression.
The exhibition is a celebration of a remarkable artist and a life well-travelled. We invite you to join us in experiencing the beauty and brilliance of her work.

Jane Phillips’ love is landscape painting. She works spontaneously to capture a spirit of place, light and colour. Her main influences are Turner and the Impressionists, particularly Bonnard; and the other extreme, Ben Nicholson, with the dynamics of his receding plains on a flat landscape.
She lives in Somerset and the Corbieres, South West France and likes to travel and paint as often as possible. She works primarily in oils, with some pastels and watercolours. She draws extensively and combines this with her other love of life drawing and painting the human figure. The movement and line in figure drawing is to her like the bones of the landscape coming alive.
Jane began her life as a teacher and painter in the early eighties, with private commissions of large cityscapes to capture the skyline and landscape of the Docklands area before it changed irretrievably and also portrait commissions. She combined this with teaching children in Primary School and then as Head of Art in a London Boy’s Prep School. Followed by starting up her own ‘Children’s Art School’ to give London children more art than school could offer, in the evenings, weekends and holidays. This dovetailed with tutoring children, high flyers for entry to St Paul’s and other London schools and those with learning problems, to open up their sense of imagery, which in turn catalysed their scholastic achievement.

BEFORE BREAKFAST
The mist wrapping
Itself around
Islands in the
Venetian lagoon
As it has done since
Time immemorial
Sunlight through
The mist
Falling
Lighting up
Onion domes
Traffic on the water
Hustling and bustling
Ever urgent
Against the
Density of
Time and history
And life
Through
Centuries.
NIGHTIME
Venice in all its moods
Rain - slashed
Thunder and lightening
Lit up like a
Theatrical set
Masked for Carnivale
Male and female obscured
Beneath a faceless exterior
Piety hidden
While the elements roar
Fear stalks
Until morning breaks
And a gentler mood
Softens the water
