KATE PRESTON ART

TOWN & COUNTRY

  • Kate’s passion for art is rooted in aesthetics and its ability to uplift spirits and bring character and joy into a home. Setting up Kate Preston Art in 2019 from her home in North Yorkshire was the realisation of a long-held desire to begin selling art and, at the same time, support up-and-coming artists. ‘I am a lifelong art lover and get such pleasure from buying a piece of art to go on our initially empty and today, increasingly eclectic and full walls at home in Yorkshire. But I don’t have a big budget, and looking for new, affordable artists is time-consuming and often too expensive, not to mention intimidating at certain galleries or auction houses.’ she says.

Her aim at Kate Preston Art is to be able to do some of the leg work for people and make the art-buying experience less daunting and more approachable. By showcasing the work of a small number of lovely, talented artists, anyone interested in buying a piece of art can discover gorgeous work that is affordable. Now in 2024, Kate is opening a new chapter with a week-long exhibition called ’Town & Country’ at The Gallery at Green & Stone on London’s Fulham Road.

With ’Town & Country’, Kate brings a slice of the countryside to London, showcasing the work of ten talented emerging artists and over 50 new paintings and artworks. The work includes beautiful still lifes in oil and watercolour, contemporary and abstract landscapes, big and playful limited edition prints and several gorgeous ceramics. As Kate says, ’Whether you’re looking for a special anniversary or wedding present, or doing a refurbishment at home and need to refresh your walls .. this exhibition is the perfect starting point. There’s something for everyone!’.

  • Flora is an artist printmaker based in Cornwall. Experimenting with collage and painting before printed, she makes limited edition screen prints on paper using bold, colourful and playful imagery. Flora is inspired by the colours and shapes of the environment and the world around her.

  • Georgie is a contemporary landscape artist based in York, North Yorkshire. After relocating from London, she has been hugely inspired by her new, more rural environment, and has been able to explore pattern formations and colour relationships within the natural landscape. Her sweeping landscapes, painted in acrylic, convey a wonderful sense of scale, majesty and contemplation.

  • Sasha is a young artist and designer based in London. Known for her colourful freehand style in paint or ceramics, Sasha transports viewers to a timeless world of art and creates whimsical work, with the aim of bringing joy into people’s lives. Her designs are lovingly handmade, hand drawn or painted - perfectly imperfect artworks that add a splash of joy to any home.

  • Alice is a young Hampshire-based artist whose joyful and energetic oil paintings focus on the subjects of food and drink. She grew up in a family that was passionate about cooking and this influence shines through in her choice of subject matter and characteristically bold and sunny impasto technique of painting. Art to make you smile!

  • ‘Painting en plein air is one of life’s greatest freedoms’ says Anna, a young and talented Dorset-based artist whose landscape paintings convey a love of the countryside, mountains and coasts. Painting en plain air, she feels a strong connection to the natural environment and the beauty within it - a connection that comes across strongly in her absorbing, colourful and uplifting work.

  • Based in North Oxfordshire, Henrietta is a talented still life artist. She draws inspiration from her love of nature and has an amazing ability to see and capture the beauty in any form of still life object, from a lustrous silver pot to a dishevelled favourite book or a plump strawberry. Her calming work is classical in style and yet manages to achieve a contemporary feel that ensures it sits well in any interior setting.

  • Sophie is an emerging artist based in North Yorkshire, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Her beautiful garden and the surrounding countryside provide endless inspiration to Sophie, who brings the outside to life in her paintings filled with colour and charm. Her work includes still life and landscape. Painting in gouache and acrylic inks, she combines harmonious tones, fantastic pattern and a lightness of touch which convey both a sense of calm and yet sense of energy from and in nature.

  • Carrie is a talented and experienced fine art photographer whose work encompasses landscape and travel photography as well as portraiture. More recently, from her studio in Hampshire, she has created stunning ‘portraits’ of plants. Carrie is drawn to the beauty and fragility of the botanical world and produces very striking and structural images that portray the living essence of the plants themselves.

  • From her studio in York, North Yorkshire, Ruth is a still life artist and sculptor. Taking inspiration from artists such as Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin and William Nicholson, Ruth’s still life paintings explore the inherent beauty of everyday items and objects from nature. She has a wonderful ability to paint the play of light and shade in subtle tones, producing paintings that are very calm, truthful and lovely to look at.

  • Bella is a talented still life artist, based in London. With her love of mixing colour and of drawing line, marks and shapes, she tries to capture what she sees in front of her, hoping to capture a moment or emotion in time. She has a very gentle touch in which objects can almost take on their own personality, with a story to tell.
