Artist Statement

I am an American figurative artist currently based in London. Working exclusively from imagination, I make drawings and paintings that depict characters from a fictional Afrofuturist world I have created. This world combines themes of hip hop and science fiction with the art of ancient Egypt. In addition to these inspirations, my pictures are heavily informed by classical western figuration - particularly the works of J.A.D. Ingres and Edgar Degas. My aim is to fuse their traditional European visual language with the coolness of hip hop culture, while also referencing the ancient world and a superhero-like sense of futurism. In doing so, I hope I can arrive at pictures that are fresh and relatable for other black people to enjoy.
