Join us for a beginner-friendly watercolour sketching workshop focused on capturing light, shadows, and the essence of still life and interior. Elena will demonstrate her techniques to bring sketches to life with colours and washes, additionally offering one-to-one guidance throughout the session. Exploring the interplay of light and shadows, attendees will learn to create the ambient light of the interior space, and introduce still-life objects to the composition with variety and contrast. The session will begin with a series of short exercises, after which you'll create a final sketch reflecting your unique style and expression.

‘Sketching the Urban Landscape in Watercolour’ - an art class with Elena Stogneva

Painting ‘En Plein-Air’ in Watercolour, participants will compose their own interpretation of Chelsea’s local scenery, a fusion of urban and natural forms. Recent winner of the St Cuthberts Mill award at the Green and Stone Works on Paper 2024 Exhibition, Lena Stogneva, will instruct how to capture the fleeting environment, and the London ambiance with controlled spontaneity in watercolour, working initially from observation. Later in the session attendants will learn how to refine their plein-air sketch imaginatively, nuancing the colours and tones, and taking inspiration from the Summer Exhibition in the Gallery space.
