‘Drawing the Portrait’ with Stephanie Mills
In this workshop, attendants will be taken through the fundamentals of portraiture drawing, working from one model holding a sustained pose for the two days.
Using the method of comparative measurement, we will cover the various stages of drawing a portrait from the initial first marks focused on the larger proportions and gesture, the importance of shapes in capturing a likeness, value arrangement, form modelling, and finishing the drawing with consideration given to topics such as edges and line weight.
Attendants will be toning their own paper with charcoal powder and have the option to work with graphite and/or charcoal on their drawings.
Stephanie will work alongside attendants rather than give a group demonstration in order to maximise model and one-to-one tuition time.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of drawing ability and you will receive multiple critiques tailored to your individual requirements.
You should expect an enjoyable and informative weekend and to come away from the course with an overview of classical drawing methods that you can use to approach future work.

‘Drawing the Fox in Coloured Pencils’ with Becca Barron
Delve into detail in this exciting workshop at The Gallery at Green & Stone, where you’ll have the opportunity to draw a hyperrealistic fox, drawn with coloured pencils and pan pastels on drafting film.
This workshop will be split over two 2.5 hour classes, giving us enough time to spend building up colour, depth and detail. Becca will work alongside attendants, breaking down the fox into simplified steps, whilst demonstrating each layer, step by step, bringing the subject to life on paper.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of drawing ability and you will also receive one to one guidance throughout the class to help you capture the character, beauty and expression of the subject.
You will learn the fundamentals of drawing with coloured pencils, along with more advanced techniques, through layering, lighting and undertones, all with an incredible control of detail.
Relax and immerse yourself in the timely process of building up layers, whilst being totally captivated and engrossed in the animal being drawn.

‘Capturing the Quirky’ with Lisa Fulthorpe
Join us for a Loose and fun workshop with the incredible watercolour artist, Lisa Fulthorpe, where we you be taught and encouraged to ‘Capture the Quirky’. The session will begin with drawing animals and people using the method of the ‘blind contour’. Lisa will lead you through this method which involves carefully observing the outline and shapes of a subject while slowly drawing its contours in a continuous line without looking at the paper.
Attendees will expect to create humorous, wonky and startling compositions that defy any creative preconceptions; art that is truly original. In the spirit of finding the joy of art in the process of playful experimentation, you never know what you get for the Blind contour, until the suprise of looking down at the paper! Working in Lisa’s method facilitates a shift from the analytical way of thinking to one that which is intuitive and taps into the subconscious.
Building on the drawing process, the works will then be developed using pen and ink, and watercolour. Making fluid washes of colour with a simple palette of 3-4 colours, Lisa will demonstrate how to make the final tonal finish of her works, after which you will take home a charming work of art.
A range of photos will be provided of animals to draw, however we also encourage you to bring photos of your own furry friends.

‘Painting the ‘Cigar Box Lid’ Landscape in Oils’ with Robert Maclaurin
Join us for an exciting workshop at The Gallery at Green & Stone, where you'll have the unique opportunity to explore the art of Cigar Size plein air painting in oils, guided by the renowned artist Robert Maclaurin.
Cigar lid painting has a rich tradition dating back to the 19th century when artists used the small, rectangular wooden lids of cigar boxes as portable canvases for quick outdoor studies. With its historical significance, this art form provided a convenient way to capture the essence of a landscape or moment, lending itself perfectly to plein-air painting, where light and atmosphere shift rapidly.
During this 2.5-hour workshop, participants will dive into this fascinating method, learning the nuances of painting in this distinctive format. You’ll have the chance to create your own study of the stunning Highland scenery, using techniques passed down through generations of plein air painters. The class costs £50 and includes all necessary materials—just bring your creativity and a passion for the outdoors! Due to the less-than-perfect weather, we will run this workshop indoors, but the methods you will learn can be transferred to the great outdoors when you're feeling brave!

‘Atmosphere and the Still Life in Watercolour’ - an art class with Elena Stogneva
Join us for a beginner-friendly watercolour sketching workshop focused on capturing light, shadows, and the essence of still life and interior. Elena will demonstrate her techniques to bring sketches to life with colours and washes, additionally offering one-to-one guidance throughout the session. Exploring the interplay of light and shadows, attendees will learn to create the ambient light of the interior space, and introduce still-life objects to the composition with variety and contrast. The session will begin with a series of short exercises, after which you'll create a final sketch reflecting your unique style and expression.
‘Drawing and Painting Nature Specimens: Butterflies and Beetles’ - a Workshop with Rebecca Jewell and Sandy Ross Sykes
This class will be an opportunity to paint butterflies and beetles, working from real specimens from the collection of Rebecca and Sandy. Using pencil, inks and watercolours, participants will learn how to measure their insect with dividers, drawing the airbourne insects with scrutiny. Then, learning how to how to mix colour, attendants will learn to imbue the characteristic rich colour and iridescence into their subject. A range of beautiful tropical and British butterflies, moths and beetles will be available to work from.

‘Sketching the Urban Landscape in Watercolour’ - an art class with Elena Stogneva
Painting ‘En Plein-Air’ in Watercolour, participants will compose their own interpretation of Chelsea’s local scenery, a fusion of urban and natural forms. Recent winner of the St Cuthberts Mill award at the Green and Stone Works on Paper 2024 Exhibition, Lena Stogneva, will instruct how to capture the fleeting environment, and the London ambiance with controlled spontaneity in watercolour, working initially from observation. Later in the session attendants will learn how to refine their plein-air sketch imaginatively, nuancing the colours and tones, and taking inspiration from the Summer Exhibition in the Gallery space.
‘Renaissance of Form: The Tondo Still Life’ - an art class with Cristina Vercesi
Join us for a unique artistic exploration in "Renaissance of Form: Still Life on Tondo with Cristina Vercesi," a two-session painting workshop dedicated to the ancient and evocative tondo format. This workshop offers a contemporary twist on a classic medium, guiding participants through the nuances of circular composition—a refreshing departure from the conventional rectangular canvas.
The tondo, or round canvas with its unique shape, encourages a different approach to balance, harmony, and narrative within the artwork, inviting participants to think creatively about space and design. Cristina Vercesi, known for her vibrant and thoughtful works, will lead you through the circular composition's practical painting techniques and aesthetic appeal.
Participants will have the opportunity to choose their muse from a curated selection of captivating antique objects from G&S Gallery or the natural beauty of various fruits.

‘Introduction to Seascapes’ - an art class with Georgie Stewart
This session is for all lovers of the sea: wild swimmers, beachcombers, windsurfers, and those who feel pulled to roam along the beach with a sketchbook in hand. Georgie will walk you through each stage of creating your own unique seascape painting, perhaps inspired by a particular coastal spot that is special to you.
‘Florals in Abstraction’ - an Art Demonstration with Florencia Galan Camps
In conjunction with Florencia Galan Camp’s Solo Show ‘Celebration’, the artist will be doing a painting demonstration at the Gallery at Green and Stone.

‘Painting a Landmark’ - an art class with Tushar Sabale
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to see and learn the use of oil colours with artist Tushar Sabale.
He will talk through and demonstrate his process of choosing and composing a complex scene and further simplifying it. You will be painting a familiar London landmark using a reference from start to finish, understanding colours, values and handling of oil colours.

‘Painting objects from the studio’ - an art class with Tushar Sabale
In this workshop, artist Tushar Sabale will be showing how to paint simple everyday objects lying in the artist studio like paint tubes, brushes, turp jars etc. He will talk through his process of how to see potential in a subject and use the stable interior light to compose and paint in oil colours.
In this interactive session you will be painting a chosen composition of still life.

Tushar Sabale Portrait Experience
Join us at the Gallery at Green & Stone for a special opportunity for you, a loved one, or both of you to sit and get a portrait oil painted by artist Tushar Sabale in his distinctive impressionist style.
The session lasts for a maximum of 3 hours with four 10-minute breaks in between. You will get an unframed portrait at the end of the session, painted with oil colours on panel.
The pose, size, and composition of the portrait will be fully done at the artist’s discretion, displaying a dynamic likeness of the sitter.
‘Portrait and Space’ - an art class with Rachel Mercer (ART STUDENTS ONLY)
Artist and tutor Rachel Mercer is kindly offering a drawing workshop for x10 art students, on a first come first served basis. The 2.5 hour class is being offered at a vastly reduced rate of £15 per student. You will need to provide student ID on arrival to the workshop.
‘Portrait and Space’ - an art class with Rachel Mercer
In the class we will use each other as models and consider ways to engage in the action and attitude of the sitter. Sitting opposite a partner makes the drawing experience up-close and person and less formal than working from a model. There will be exercises designed to improve skill and accuracy in drawing, helping us to capture essential likeness rather than detail. In the second half of the class participants will use their portrait drawings to create an imaginative composition using the street outside the gallery for inspiration.
‘Drawing and Painting Nature Specimens’ with Rebecca Jewell & Sandy Ross Sykes
This class will be an opportunity to paint beautiful and curious specimens from Rebecca & Sandy’s natural history collection, including exotic feathers and insects, pressed seaweeds, shells, skulls and seed pods.
Students will be using pencil and watercolour to recreate their own cabinet of curiosities on paper.

Introduction to Mono-Print with Sasha Compton
Monoprinting is an expressive printmaking technique that yields one-of-a-kind and surprising results. The best things happen when you let go and enjoy the process of creating, and with monoprinting, the opportunities for experimentation are endless,
This class will be focused on possibilities, positivity and play, using interesting objects from around Green & Stone as inspiration. You will also be looking at contemporary artists such as Hockney, Matisse and Emin who explore different takes on contemporary mono-prints.

‘Painting Trees in Watercolour’ with Mayad Allos
During this two hour class we will breakdown the elements to paint six species of trees, all varying in shape and design. We’ll begin with sketching, followed by pen & ink, and finally we’ll use shades of various green hues to lay down watercolour. Mayad will be sharing his tips & tricks to elevate your drawings.

‘Drawing the Portrait from Life’ with Laura Arenson
In drawing the portrait from life we come to observe the human face in ways we have never done so before.
In this session we will explore proportions, gesture and structure of the face and learn how to articulate a person's unique likeness and their expressions through the visual language of art. This class aims to nurture enjoyment and self-confidence in drawing in a structured and supported environment.

Christmas Candle Painting Workshop with Monika Ancheva
Monika will show you how to paint your own beautifully unique dinner candles.
The workshop will cover everything from conceptualising your design idea to delicately painting your bespoke pattern onto your candles. You will receive lots of tips to help you become more confident in developing your own style.

‘Paper Forms - an Introduction to Collage’ with Ella Kate Harrison
Learn to create a collaged 'natural form' inspired artwork. Ella will guide you through colour mixing, staining papers and mark - making, to create a menu of delicious papers to work with. You will sketch from natural forms to find beautiful shapes and silhouettes, develop your cutting skills and arrange layers of paper into beautiful compositions.
‘Drawing Realistically in Coloured Pencils’ - an art class with Becca Barron
Becca will introduce you to a hyperrealistic style of drawing, using a variety of coloured pencil techniques. We will be drawing horses eyes, with accuracy, precision and immense attention to detail.
At the end of the evening, each person will be able to take home their hand drawn realistic horse eye study.
‘Introduction to Linocut’ - an art class with Venetia Higgins
Venetia will introduce you to the relief-print technique of lino-cutting. During this class you will be shown how to use specialist tools to create your linocut and then how to ink and hand-press it onto a Kraft greeting card.
We will be focusing on botanical designs inspired by the garden.
At the end of the evening, each person will be able to take home their hand-printed greeting cards & envelopes.
‘Wildlife: feathers, fur, skin & scales’ - a FREE art class with Charlotte Sutton
A ONE-OFF FREE CLASS! Learn to create realistic animal fur, feathers and scales using Acrylic paint with wildlife and nature artist Charlotte Sutton.
Charlotte teaches how to use a paint layering technique she uses in her own paintings to create acute detail. Choose between a selection of hand-drawn African wildlife on canvas to use as a base for the paint layers to unfold.
Charlotte is a London based artist, renowned for creating beautiful acrylic and watercolour paintings of animals and ecosystems with photorealistic detail.

‘Drawing and Reinterpreting the Masters’ - an art class with Sara Lee Roberts
Drawing and reinterpreting the Masters - Picasso, Auerbach, Cecily Brown and many others have made contemporary work that refers to art of the past. In this class we look at how to make fast and meaningful thumbnail sketches from paintings by the Old Masters. We will then look at ways of responding via coloured drawing to their work as part of a journey towards finding your own contemporary voice. The class is suitable for all levels. ‘Tabletop Landscape’ - an art class with Rachel Mercer
In this class, we will consider the still life as a miniature terrain that we can explore through drawing. The class will begin with some exercises that warm up our hand and eye, helping us to consider line, tone and form. We will explore techniques in charcoal and ink to consider mark making, and develop ideas around composition by working on horizontal and vertical formats.
